We are a team of leading speech pathologists with extensive experience and knowledge across voice, upper airway, swallowing and communication disorders.  We work across six locations in Brisbane servicing patients within private hospitals as well as outpatient care.  We also have the ability to provide telehealth services across Australia.    

We work closely within a multidisciplinary team to ensure that we are providing a co-ordinated and well informed service to our clients that is gold standard and based on the latest evidence. Our tailored treatment plans and services support our clients throughout their journey towards recovery.

Kylie Perkins

Certified Practising Speech Pathologist

Kylie Perkins received her Bachelor of Speech Therapy from the University of Queensland in 1989. Kylie was employed as a speech pathologist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for 17 years where she developed a specific interest in the evaluation and management of swallowing disorders. She has extensive experience working in a variety of clinical areas including head and neck cancer, critical care, neurological conditions and the aging population. More recently Kylie made the transition into private practice where she is able to provide a specialised service which spans the continuum from hospital to home. Kylie is highly regarded as a clinician, mentor and educator with a commitment to incorporating sound empirical evidence into clinical interventions in the area of swallowing assessment and rehabilitation. Her particular area of interest is survivorship and rehabilitation of patients with swallowing disorders following treatment for head and neck cancer. She co-authored two chapters in Ward, EC & Van As- Brooks, CJ 2nd Edition (2014) Head and Neck Cancer: Treatment, Rehabilitation and Outcomes, Plural Publishing, USA as well as a chapter in Harrison, N. Jones & John, C. Rosenbek, Dysphagia in Rare Conditions, an Encyclopedia, Plural Publishing USA, 2010.

Ann-Louise Spurgin

Certified Practising Speech Pathologist

Ann-Louise completed her Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Hons) at the University of Queensland in 1995.  She has worked for many years within large tertiary referral hospitals in both Brisbane and London.  Ann-Louise has extensive experience in the management of patients with voice, upper airway, swallowing and communication disorders.  She has a passion for the diagnosis and treatment of voice and upper airway disorders and currently runs the multidisciplinary Diagnostic Voice Clinic with Ear Nose and Throat Specialists at a large tertiary referral teaching hospital in Brisbane.  She has a commitment to education and provides education and training courses to speech pathologists and other health professionals in the management of voice restoration following head and neck surgery.  She has also been involved in numerous research projects and co-authored a number of journal publications and textbook chapters.

Laura Moroney

Certified Practising Speech Pathologist

Dr Laura Moroney completed her Bachelor of Speech Pathology at the University of Queensland in 2007. After completing rural generalist practice as a new graduate she has since worked at a large tertiary teaching hospital in Brisbane and at the University of Queensland. Laura has extensive experience in the assessment and management of patients with swallowing, communication, voice and upper airway disorders across a range of clinical areas. Clinically, Laura has a special interest in voice and has run a multidisciplinary diagnostic voice clinic in conjunction with Ear Nose and Throat specialists for over 10 years. In 2019 Laura completed her PhD investigating swallowing and toxicity outcomes for patients with head and neck cancer receiving an advanced radiation therapy technique and has authored several journal publications. Laura is passionate about improving the availability of voice related professional development for speech pathologists in Australia and has sought to achieve this through state based working groups, her past role on the Australian Voice Association board – professional development portfolio and her current role in the Laryngology Society of Australasia Board.

Eleanor Perkins

Certified Practising Speech Pathologist

Eleanor completed her Bachelor of Speech Pathology at Australian Catholic University in 2020. She has experience supporting individuals with progressive neurological conditions, head and neck cancer, laryngectomy, and respiratory-related swallowing difficulties. Eleanor provides assessment and therapy across home, hospital, aged care, and outpatient settings, and independently operates a weekly Videofluoroscopic Swallow Study (VFSS) clinic. She is currently completing certification in Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES).

Eleanor is also the speech pathologist for the weekly Head and Neck Cancer Allied Health Clinic at GenesisCare, a joint service with Dietetics, and is an active participant in the GenesisCare Private Head and Neck Cancer Multidisciplinary Team meetings. These roles reflect her commitment to collaborative, team-based care for individuals undergoing cancer treatment.

Her clinical approach is grounded in dignity, safety, and function. Eleanor provides a broad range of interventions including PhoRTE voice therapy, SpeakOut! for Parkinson’s disease, Respiratory Muscle Strength Training (RMST), and comprehensive support for tracheostomy and laryngectomy management. She also supports patients experiencing late-onset changes to speech and swallowing following treatment for head and neck or upper gastrointestinal cancer.

Nadia de Silva

Certified Practising Speech Pathologist

Nadia de Silva is an experienced speech pathologist who graduated with First Class Honours from the University of Queensland in 2005. Over the past two decades, she has worked across diverse healthcare settings both in Australia and internationally.

Nadia has a strong clinical interest in the assessment and management of complex dysphagia, as well as functional testing before, during, and after awake craniotomy procedures. She has undertaken advanced training in both Videofluoroscopic Swallow Studies (VFSS) and Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES), and played a leading role in establishing a diagnostic FEES service within a quaternary rehabilitation centre in Brisbane.

In 2019, Nadia was awarded a prestigious Winston Churchill Fellowship, which enabled her to explore international models of intraoperative assessment during awake craniotomy across the USA and Europe. Her focus included the evaluation of speech, language, cognitive, motor, and sensory functions, and she is now actively implementing this model of care in the Australian clinical context.

At Voice + Swallowing Solutions, Nadia leads a weekly VFSS and FEES clinic, providing high-level instrumental assessments to adults with swallowing disorders. Her commitment to clinical excellence and innovation supports best-practice care for individuals with complex communication and swallowing needs.

Natalie Hickey

Certified Practising Speech Pathologist

Natalie has over 20 years’ experience working across large teaching hospitals, aged care, community settings, and private practice. She specialises in supporting adults with complex communication and swallowing impairments from neurological causes including stroke, traumatic brain injury, and progressive neurological diseases. Natalie is highly skilled in delivering evidence-based, intensive aphasia treatment programs both in person and via telehealth. She is recognised for her expertise in instrumental swallowing assessments (VFSS & FEES), and played a key role in establishing the public sector’s Comprehensive High-dose Aphasia Therapy (CHAT) program.

Phoebe Noort

Allied Health Assistant

Phoebe is an Allied Health Assistant at Voice and Swallowing Solutions and a third-year Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Honours) student at The University of Queensland. Originally from the Gold Coast, Phoebe brings a warm and supportive presence to her role, along with a strong academic foundation in speech pathology.

She regularly assists in both Videofluoroscopic Swallow Study (VFSS) and Flexible Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) clinics, working closely with Certified Practising Speech Pathologists to ensure smooth, safe, and person-centred assessments. Phoebe also delivers structured therapy programs under the guidance of the speech pathology team, supporting adults with communication and swallowing difficulties in clinic, community, and home settings.

Phoebe is currently completing her SpeakOut! training to further support individuals with Parkinson’s disease in maintaining functional speech and voice.

Her hands-on experience and dedication to evidence-based practice are already shaping her into a thoughtful and capable future speech pathologist.
