Kylie Perkins

Kylie Perkins received her Bachelor of Speech Therapy from the University of Queensland in 1989. Kylie was employed as a speech pathologist at the Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital for 17 years where she developed a specific interest in the evaluation and management of swallowing disorders. She has extensive experience working in a variety of clinical areas including head and neck cancer, critical care, neurological conditions and the aging population. More recently Kylie made the transition into private practice where she is able to provide a specialised service which spans the continuum from hospital to home. Kylie is highly regarded as a clinician, mentor and educator with a commitment to incorporating sound empirical evidence into clinical interventions in the area of swallowing assessment and rehabilitation. Her particular area of interest is survivorship and rehabilitation of patients with swallowing disorders following treatment for head and neck cancer. She co-authored two chapters in Ward, EC & Van As- Brooks, CJ 2nd Edition (2014) Head and Neck Cancer: Treatment, Rehabilitation and Outcomes, Plural Publishing, USA as well as a chapter in Harrison, N. Jones & John, C. Rosenbek, Dysphagia in Rare Conditions, an Encyclopedia, Plural Publishing USA, 2010.
Ann-Louise Spurgin
Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist
Ann-Louise completed her Bachelor of Speech Pathology (Hons) at the University of Queensland in 1995. She has worked for many years within large tertiary referral hospitals in both Brisbane and London. Ann-Louise has extensive experience in the management of patients with voice, upper airway, swallowing and communication disorders. She has a passion for the diagnosis and treatment of voice and upper airway disorders and currently runs the multidisciplinary Diagnostic Voice Clinic with Ear Nose and Throat Specialists at a large tertiary referral teaching hospital in Brisbane. She has a commitment to education and provides education and training courses to speech pathologists and other health professionals in the management of voice restoration following head and neck surgery. She has also been involved in numerous research projects and co-authored a number of journal publications and textbook chapters.
Eleanor Perkins
Graduate Speech Pathologist
Eleanor graduated from Bachelor of Speech Pathology at the Australian Catholic University in November 2020. Eleanor spent the final year of her degree work shadowing with Kylie and continues to do this whilst developing her skills and gaining confidence managing her own caseload. During this period, Eleanor gained valuable experience assessing and managing a varied mix of swallowing and communication disorders. Eleanor enjoys working with patients, families and caregivers planning and supporting them to reach their swallowing and communication goals. She has a special interest in working with adults with swallowing difficulties and providing speech/voice treatment to people with Parkinson’s Disease. She is passionate about advocating for her client’s needs and making a positive difference in their day to day lives. Eleanor is currently working towards gaining her competency in performing and interpreting Videofluroscopic Swallow Studies.
Laura Moroney
Certified Practicing Speech Pathologist
Dr Laura Moroney completed her Bachelor of Speech Pathology at the University of Queensland in 2007. After completing rural generalist practice as a new graduate she has since worked at a large tertiary teaching hospital in Brisbane and at the University of Queensland. Laura has extensive experience in the assessment and management of patients with swallowing, communication, voice and upper airway disorders across a range of clinical areas. Clinically, Laura has a special interest in voice and has run a multidisciplinary diagnostic voice clinic in conjunction with Ear Nose and Throat specialists for over 10 years. In 2019 Laura completed her PhD investigating swallowing and toxicity outcomes for patients with head and neck cancer receiving an advanced radiation therapy technique and has authored several journal publications. Laura is passionate about improving the availability of voice related professional development for speech pathologists in Australia and has sought to achieve this through state based working groups, her past role on the Australian Voice Association board – professional development portfolio and her current role in the Laryngology Society of Australasia Board.
