ENT and Speech Pathology Voice Clinics

Ann Louise Spurgin and Laura Moroney have a special interest in laryngology, the study and treatment of voice, laryngeal, and upper airway disorders. They run specialised clinics in collaboration with ENT (Ear, Nose, and Throat) surgeons, using nasendoscopy and videostroboscopy to examine the vocal folds, throat and upper airway in detail. Stroboscopy uses special light that allows us to observe the vibratory pattern of the vocal folds and nasendoscopy allows us to observe gross movements of the vocal cords and larynx during voicing and breathing tasks to help identify what is contributing to your voice or upper airway symptoms.

During the assessment, a thin, flexible camera (nasendoscope) is gently passed through your nose after a local anaesthetic spray to view your larynx (voice box) and airway. The examination is recorded in high-definition, capturing both structure and movement.

Afterwards, the ENT surgeon and Speech Pathologist will review the video with you, explaining what they see to help you understand your voice and airway health, so together you can plan the most effective treatment plan.
